  • Researchers in China showcase a mind-controlled car

    Researchers in China have unveiled a car that can be controlled simply by the mind, according to a Reuters report. A research team from Nankai University in Tianjin helped developed the car, which is the first of its kind.
    The car works by capturing EEG (electroencephalogram) signals from the driver’s brain. It comes with 16 sensors to covert these signals into commands to drive the car. According to Reuters, the driver needs to wear brain signal-reading equipment following which one can control the car to go forward, backwards, come to a stop, lock and unlock vehicles without actually moving their hands or feet.

    On Flickr, Apple’s iPhones dominated as the favourite camera brand for 2015, beating even DSLR brands like Canon and Nikon.
    According to Flickr’s year in review post, Apple beat out rival Samsung in the year 2015 and by the end of the year, the Cupertino-tech giant had a share of nearly one third of the photos uploaded on Flickr.
    The post notes that “Canon’s share fell significantly and Nikon continued its slow decline”, although Sony and Fujifilm managed to stay steady in 2015.

  • Govt says BSNL will help Google’s Project Loon take flight in India


    Google’s Project Loon aims at launching balloons in the airspace, which will act as mobile BTS’s to offer affordable internet access to rural areas.
    The government has in-principle agreed to partner with Google’s Project Loon on a pilot basis and state run BSNL has been assigned to partner it, communications and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Wednesday after a meeting with Google’s CEO Sunder Pichai.
    “In-principle we agree for a pilot project for Project Loon. We are quite open on the project and BSNL will partner with Google for it,” Prasad said. The minister said that his ministry will consult the ministry of civil aviation and other security agencies for the project.
