After announcing Windows 10 Anniversary update for PCs, the Redmond-based software company is now rolling a new version for Raspberry Pi 3 under the IoT Core programme.
Windows 10 IoT Core anniversary update brings performance and application-support improvements and an easier setup experience. The Anniversary for Raspberry Pi 3 also brings functional parity with Raspberry Pi 2.
With Windows 10 IoT Core Anniversary Update, Raspberry Pi 3 users can remote into their IoT device and remotely control what’s displayed on their IoT device from any desktop or phone. The Raspberry Pi also gains support for Windows Store’s service applications. With NOOBS, Windows 10 IoT Core on Raspberry Pi 3 now supports 8GB cards too.
Other feature additions include better Azure IoT hub connectivity and foreground app support with shell capabilities. The new anniversary update also works better with arduino hardware. Beyond Raspberry Pi 3, the Windows 10 IoT Core anniversary update is also being pushed to MinnowMax, Raspberry Pi 2 and DragonBoard 410c developer boards.
Developers have built some innovative projects based on Raspberry Pi 3 and Windows 10 IoT Core and Microsoft has listed some innovative project ideas. The recommended projects include facial-recognition tiggered door, home automation system, weather stations, GPS module and temperature controlled fan.
Raspberry Pi 3 has sold in millions since its launch. The developer build’s latest model B has been upgraded with WiFi and Bluetooth low energy modules. Windows 10 IoT Core update brings stability and security fixes to Raspberry Pi 3 which also works with Linux-based operating systems like Ubuntu and Raspbian.
