Xiaomi has announced the launch of its Amazfit smartwatch priced at CNY 799 (approx Rs 8,000). The announcement was made in China, by Xiaomi backed company, Huami. The smartwatch is equipped with features such as a heart rate monitor for fitness tracking, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS and Wi-Fi.
Huami Amazfit smartwatch comes with a 1.34-inch display with a 300×300 pixel resolution. The smartwatch is equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, has 512MB RAM and 4GB ROM. The smartwatch is IP67 dust and water resistant and features a 280mAh battery.
The smartwatch features a single physical button on the right side of the device to unlock it. The strap on the watch comes in a dual-colour band.
Huami claims that it Amazfit smartwatch will last a user 35 hours when the GPS is enabled, but can be setup to serve up to five days. The company also claims that the watch can stay powered for more than 11 days when working in power saving mode.
Xiaomi Amazfit also supports AliPay (Alibaba’s mobile payment service). The device will start shipping in China today, and is available on TMall website. There has been no official announcement on when the smartwatch will be launched in other markets.
Xiaomi has been investing heavily in smaller startups that create consumer products in which the company finds a value. It plans to help these startups bring to market their products using the Xiaomi brand muscle.
